How to Choose the Right Saree Fabric
Fabric decides how a saree falls, how comfortable it feels and which occasion it suits.
Cotton and cotton blends
The most comfortable and the easiest to manage. Best for summer, office days and everyday wear. The fall is slightly crisp, so the pleats hold their shape neatly.
Georgette
Light and soft with a lovely fall. Ideal for travel, long functions and any day when you will be in a saree for many hours.
Satin and designer prints
A soft sheen and clear prints — made for evening functions, parties and festive days. The sheen photographs well, so keep the jewellery simple.
Art silk and silk-look fabrics
Best for weddings and larger occasions. A heavier border and deeper colours give a rich look, though it is not as light through a full day as cotton.
A quick summary by occasion
- Everyday and office — cotton, cotton blend
- Long functions and travel — georgette
- Festive days and parties — satin, designer prints
- Weddings — art silk with a heavier border
Care
Cotton can be washed at home in cold water. Georgette, satin and silk-look fabrics prefer a gentle hand wash or dry cleaning. Always dry in the shade.
